Bahrain is one of the most popular short-break destinations for UAE residents — less than an hour from Dubai by air, easy to drive to if you have Saudi visas, and genuinely different in character from the Emirates. Hamad International Airport in Doha gets most of the Gulf's transit traffic, but for those flying specifically to Manama or connecting through Bahrain International Airport (BAH), the lounge situation is compact, high quality, and worth understanding clearly before you travel.
Unlike Doha or Dubai, Bahrain has just two main passenger lounges. What it lacks in quantity, though, it more than makes up for in quality — particularly The Pearl Lounge, which holds a Skytrax 5-Star certification and genuinely rivals the best independent lounges in the region.
This guide covers both lounges in full, how UAE residents and expats can access them, what you'll pay at the door, and which UAE-issued credit cards work at Bahrain Airport.
Bahrain International Airport: What UAE Travellers Need to Know
Bahrain International Airport's single terminal is easy to navigate — walking to the furthest gate takes no more than 20 minutes. The airport completed a $1.1 billion terminal renovation in 2021, making it a modern, light-filled space that consistently receives strong passenger satisfaction scores.
The two main lounges sit on opposite sides of the central atrium — The Pearl Lounge to the left as you face the gates, and the Gulf Air Falcon Gold Lounge to the right, near gates 18A and 18B. Both are on the upper level, accessed by escalators or lifts from the main concourse.
One critical thing to know upfront: Priority Pass does not work at Bahrain Airport's current lounges. The Pearl Lounge accepts DragonPass, which is the programme for Mastercard World/World Elite cards. The Gulf Air Lounge does not accept any lounge programme — it is airline-operated only. We'll cover the full access picture in detail below.
Bahrain Airport Lounge Overview

The Pearl Lounge (Departures) — The Star of Bahrain Airport
Location: Airside departures, Level 2, near gates 15A–15B. Take the escalator or lift from the main concourse. The lounge is on the left side of the terminal when facing the gates.
Hours: 24/7
The Pearl Lounge at Bahrain International Airport is certified as a 5-Star Airline Lounge by Skytrax for its excellent product and service standards, described as "fashioned on the principles and design of a 5-star hotel, finished to the most excellent standard, offering a most luxurious and relaxing ambience."
This is not the kind of phrase Skytrax uses lightly — and on the evidence of traveller reviews and independent assessments, it is well earned.
Size and layout
The Pearl Lounge spans 2,690 square metres and seats 445 customers. For context, that makes it one of the largest independent lounges in the Gulf by footprint — comparable in size to some of the premium lounges at Doha or Dubai despite serving a much smaller airport. The lounge features 10 individually crafted areas, each with a distinct ambiance, where guests can rest, refresh, or work in whichever space suits their mood.
The design takes its cue from traditional Bahraini hospitality, with high ceilings, natural materials, and an art walk throughout the space — next to each painting is a QR code, allowing guests to explore local talent and discover the stories behind the works. It is a genuinely elegant touch that sets The Pearl apart from the generic executive lounge aesthetic.
Dining
From a live open kitchen to hot and cold buffets incorporating global cuisines, The Pearl Lounge ensures there is something to delight different palates. Reviewers consistently highlight the quality and variety of the food — including fresh cooked options, a full salad and cheese station, dessert displays, and a properly staffed bar serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Unlike many of Bahrain's regional neighbours, Bahrain is not a dry country, so alcohol is available at its lounges, making The Pearl a more complete experience for travellers accustomed to the bar options at Abu Dhabi or Dubai.
Facilities
The Pearl Lounge includes a silent lounge, prayer rooms, a showering facility, a nursing room, washrooms, a designated smoking room, a dedicated family area, a gaming and kids' area, and a concierge service.
The lounge also features direct elevator access to the Bahrain Airport Transit Hotel — useful for travellers on very long layovers who need a proper bed. The nearby hotel has a spa, and Priority Pass cardholders can use their card to get a complimentary 30-minute massage at the spa, even though Priority Pass itself no longer works in the lounge.
Who can access The Pearl Lounge
The Pearl Lounge is an open-access facility — meaning any passenger can enter, regardless of ticket class or airline.
Walk-in: Access to the Pearl Lounge is open to any guest for a fee of BHD 25 for three hours. Payment is by debit card, credit card, or Apple Pay.
Premium ticket holders: British Airways and many other airlines flying in Business or First Class grant access to The Pearl as their contracted lounge at Bahrain. Qatar Airways regional first class passengers (those flying the short Middle Eastern hop to Doha) are also eligible.
Credit card access: The Pearl Lounge accepts DragonPass, which is the programme for Mastercard World/World Elite cardholders. It also accepts the Visa Airport Companion programme. See the credit card section below for the full list of UAE cards that work here.
Important: There is currently no way to access The Pearl Lounge using Priority Pass or standard lounge cards. If your UAE credit card benefit runs through Priority Pass rather than DragonPass/Mastercard Travel Pass or Visa Airport Companion, it will not work at Bahrain Airport. Check your card's specific programme before travelling.
The Pearl Lounge (Arrivals)
Location: Landside, arrivals area — after you clear customs and immigration. Open to anyone visiting the airport, including those meeting arriving passengers.
Hours: 24/7
The arrivals lounge is a smaller, quieter version of the departures lounge. It offers comfortable seating, a rest zone, food and beverage service, and washroom facilities. The arrivals lounge does not have showers, but it offers a peaceful retreat after a long flight. The price is approximately BHD 12 — roughly half the departures lounge — making it worth considering if you need somewhere to wait for your luggage or compose yourself before heading into Manama.
Access is via the same credit card programmes as the departures lounge.
Gulf Air Falcon Gold Lounge — The Airline Lounge
Location: Airside departures, Level 2, near gates 18A–18B. Escalator or lift access from the main concourse, on the right side of the terminal when facing the gates.
Hours: 24/7
The Gulf Air Falcon Gold Lounge is Gulf Air's flagship home lounge — the nerve centre of Bahrain's national carrier. The new Falcon Gold Lounge opened on 28 January 2021 as part of the airport's new international terminal. With a capacity of 400 guests, it is twice as large as its predecessor.
Design and atmosphere
The lounge carries a minimalistic Arabian design style with modern concepts that incorporate the rich history of the 70-year-old brand. Interiors consist of rich dark wood elements and warm tones, with gold, black, and light tones reflecting the design of Gulf Air's Falcon Gold business class cabins. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer panoramic views of the airport runway on one side, while a clear pane of glass overlooks the departures hall on the other.
Facilities
The lounge features varied lounging, dining and entertainment areas, including showers, prayer rooms, a quiet zone, a gaming area, and a 600sqm terrace. Other features include a cigar lounge and a set of private nap rooms for guests on longer layovers. There is a work area with computers, a printer, and a fax machine near the entrance.
One consistent criticism from reviewers is the shower situation. The men's bathroom had a single shower room in the very back, which felt inadequate for a Gulf carrier primarily transporting transit passengers. Skytrax rates the lounge 4 Stars, noting "slightly dated furnishings but functional for dining and working" and that "the showers and washroom facilities are very limited."
The food offering is a genuine strength — a buffet with hot and cold dishes, live cooking options, and a full bar. Guests can indulge in one of the many dining options available throughout the lounge while gazing at the runway or sharing a meal with travel companions.
Who can access the Gulf Air Falcon Gold Lounge
This lounge is exclusively for Gulf Air passengers and Falconflyer programme members. The Gulf Air Falcon Gold Lounge is not open to Priority Pass members, and neither is the contract lounge at the airport.
Access is granted to:
Gulf Air First or Business Class (Falcon Gold) passengers on same-day flights
Gulf Air Falconflyer Black, Gold, and Silver card members
Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members when travelling on a Oneworld flight
Economy class passengers who purchase access
Guest access: Black card holders may bring two travel companions into the lounge free of charge. Gold card holders may bring one travel companion free.
Purchased access for economy passengers: Those travelling in Gulf Air economy class can pay a fee of BHD 30 (approximately USD 80) for lounge access. You can also pay using 5,000 Falconflyer miles.
Important restriction: Lounge access is not available for those travelling on flights operated by carriers other than Gulf Air, including Gulf Air codeshare flights operated by partner airlines.
Which UAE Credit Cards Work at Bahrain Airport
This is the part most UAE residents need to know clearly before they book. The lounge situation at Bahrain Airport changed significantly when the new terminal opened in 2021 — the Dilmun Lounge, which accepted Priority Pass, closed, and was not replaced with a Priority Pass property. The current Pearl Lounge accepts DragonPass (the programme for Mastercard World/World Elite) and Visa Airport Companion.
What works and what doesn't
Priority Pass — does NOT work at BAH Priority Pass is not accepted at either The Pearl Lounge or the Gulf Air Falcon Gold Lounge. If your UAE card benefit is solely through Priority Pass (older FAB, HSBC, or American Express configurations), it will not get you into a Bahrain lounge without paying at the door.
Mastercard Travel Pass (powered by DragonPass) — works at The Pearl The Pearl Lounge at Bahrain International Airport is confirmed as part of the Mastercard Travel Pass (DragonPass) network, accessible through the Mastercard Travel Pass app. UAE Mastercard cardholders from Emirates NBD, Citibank, FAB, RAKBank, and others with Mastercard Travel Pass access can use this programme at Bahrain.
Visa Airport Companion (powered by DragonPass) — works at The Pearl Standard Chartered Bahrain confirms Pearl Lounge access via the Visa Airport Companion app for eligible Visa cardholders. UAE-issued Visa cards from Emirates NBD, ADCB, Emirates Islamic, and others with Visa Airport Companion access will work here.

The rules that apply to all UAE cardholders at Bahrain
Apps are mandatory. Neither Mastercard Travel Pass nor Visa Airport Companion accepts physical card presentation any longer. Download and register your app before your trip — not at The Pearl Lounge reception desk.
The Mastercard international spend requirement. For Mastercard Platinum, World, and World Elite cards issued in the UAE, you must make a minimum international transaction of USD 1 every three months to maintain complimentary lounge access. An "international transaction" means a purchase at a merchant physically outside the UAE, or at an international online merchant. Failing to meet this requirement means you will pay USD 32 per visit.
UAE Mastercard Titanium — no longer works. Titanium Mastercard cards issued in the UAE have had their complimentary airport lounge access replaced with a Flight Delay Pass. This does not cover standard lounge entry — it only grants access when your flight is delayed.
Guest fees. Most UAE card programmes charge USD 32 per guest per visit beyond the cardholder's included entitlement. Cards like the Emirates NBD Skywards Infinite and FAB World Elite include one complimentary guest — check your specific card terms.
Annual visit caps. Many UAE Mastercard cards introduced annual visit caps from June 2025. The Citi Prestige, for example, is capped at 14 visits per calendar year. If you travel through Bahrain frequently as part of a wider travel programme, count your visits carefully.
Bahrain Airport Compared to Doha and Dubai
For UAE residents who regularly fly through the Gulf, the practical comparison matters:
vs. Doha (DOH): Doha has a richer lounge ecosystem — Al Mourjan and Al Safwa are genuinely world-class, and Al Maha accepts Priority Pass. But Bahrain's Pearl Lounge holds its own as an independent facility, and for passengers not flying Qatar Airways, it is arguably a more accessible premium experience.
vs. Dubai (DXB): Dubai offers Priority Pass access through the Marhaba Lounge network, giving more cards broader access. Bahrain's Pearl Lounge, however, is larger, quieter, and more architecturally distinctive than most Dubai options in its tier.
For a short-break destination or a straightforward transit point, Bahrain punches above its weight on lounge quality. The Pearl's Skytrax 5-Star rating is well earned and reflects the attention to detail that the new terminal brought to the whole airport experience.
Practical Tips for UAE Travellers at Bahrain Airport
Arrive early if you want a shower. The Pearl Lounge's showers are popular, particularly on early morning and late evening flights. Walking in a couple of hours before departure is better than rushing.
If you're flying Gulf Air, you're well served. The Falcon Gold Lounge is a solid Business Class lounge even with its shower limitations. The food is good, the space is generous, and the runway views are enjoyable.
If you're not flying Gulf Air, head to The Pearl. It genuinely delivers on its 5-Star rating, and for most UAE residents flying other carriers, the Mastercard Travel Pass or Visa Airport Companion access makes it accessible without a walk-in fee.
Don't rely on Priority Pass at BAH. This is the single most common mistake UAE travellers make at Bahrain. Check your card programme before assuming you have free access.
The arrivals lounge is underrated. If you're arriving into Bahrain on a morning flight and want somewhere to freshen up before heading into Manama for a day of meetings, the arrivals Pearl Lounge at around BHD 12 (approximately USD 32) is a genuinely useful option.
