Oman consistently surprises travellers who expect a typical Gulf airport experience. The country's flagship terminal at Muscat International Airport houses what multiple independent reviewers — with no obvious agenda — describe as among the finest airport lounges in the world. Not the finest in the Middle East. Among the finest anywhere.
For UAE residents, Oman is a natural long-weekend destination: less than an hour by air from Dubai, dramatically different in landscape and character, and significantly quieter than the Emirates. Whether you are transiting through Muscat on a connection, flying direct for a few days in Muscat or Salalah, or heading to the rugged fjords of Musandam through Khasab, understanding the lounge situation at each airport is worth your time.
This guide covers every major Omani airport with lounge facilities, from Muscat's exceptional fifth-floor cluster down to what you can realistically expect at the country's secondary airports. It also covers the most important lounge development of 2025: Oman Air joining the oneworld alliance in June, which changed lounge access rights for a large number of passengers.
Oman Airports: What UAE Travellers Need to Know
Oman has four main commercial airports:
Muscat International Airport (MCT): The primary hub, 30km south of Muscat city. Handles the overwhelming majority of international flights, all Oman Air long-haul routes, and serves as the transit gateway for connections across Asia, Europe, and Africa. Oman Airports operates Muscat Airport as the biggest in the country, Salalah as the second-biggest, and Sohar Airport, as well as Duqm Airport on behalf of the special economic zone there.
Salalah Airport (SLL): The second international airport, serving Dhofar Governorate in southern Oman. Popular particularly during the Khareef (monsoon) season from July to September, when Salalah's green landscape draws large numbers of visitors from across the Gulf.
Sohar Airport (OHS): A smaller regional airport serving the industrial port city of Sohar, approximately 200km north of Muscat. Limited scheduled international services; primarily Air Arabia, Qatar Airways, and SalamAir.
Khasab Airport (KHS): Serves the spectacular Musandam peninsula — the enclave separated from the rest of Oman by the UAE. Connected to Muscat by Oman Air domestic flights. No international lounges.
For UAE residents, the most common scenario is flying into or through Muscat. Salalah becomes relevant for summer or winter breaks. Sohar is primarily for business travellers in the industrial north. Khasab connects the Musandam fjords to the national network.
Muscat International Airport: The Lounge Cluster
Muscat's airport is home to three lounges clustered together on Level 5 — accessible after passport control via escalators and lifts from the fourth-floor departures level. The signage is clear and the walk from security is straightforward. Once you reach the fifth floor, you will find the Aerotel transit hotel, the Oman Air First and Business Class Lounge, and the Primeclass Lounge arranged around a circular atrium. Just find the elevators and go up to the fifth floor — the fourth floor is the departures level.
Primeclass Lounge — World-Class Priority Pass Access
Location: Level 5, Muscat International Airport. Airside, after passport control.
Hours: 24/7
Walk-in fee: OMR 25 (inclusive of VAT) per person for 3 hours of usage. Children under 2 are free of charge.
The Primeclass Lounge at Muscat is not just good for a contract lounge — it is genuinely exceptional by any standard. Multiple experienced travellers who have visited hundreds of lounges worldwide call it among the best Priority Pass properties on the planet, and the evidence consistently supports that claim.
The Primeclass Muscat Lounge is a Skytrax certified 5-star lounge. It is expansive with a broad range of facilities and service, most of which can be used complimentary. There is a good range of bar and buffet choices with food counters in two locations to reduce congestion, hotel-standard bedrooms, children's play facilities, and computer games units, with a capacity of 375 seats.
Design and atmosphere
The lounge stretches lengthwise along the terminal's windows. After entering, you immediately pass the buffet before reaching the first of several seating areas. This bright, spacious space leans on traditional Omani designs, with decorative arches and wall panels. The Arabesque patterns, wooden elements, and deliberate nods to Omani heritage give it an authenticity that sets it apart from the generic premium lounge aesthetic found elsewhere in the Gulf.
Food and drink
Three separate buffet areas serve hot and cold international and Omani cuisines. Etihad, British Airways, Gulf Air, Qatar Airways, Emirates, and others all use this facility for their business class passengers — so it gets busy and the kitchen is producing food for a large, continuous crowd.
Unlike Kuwait's dry lounges, alcohol is served here. There is a bar next to the main buffet with the usual selection of branded spirits, and a fresh juice bar staffed by someone serving behind it. The bar does not offer made-to-order cocktails — that distinction belongs to the Oman Air lounge next door — but the drinks selection is solid.
Private bedrooms: the standout feature
The most remarkable thing about the Primeclass Lounge is a facility almost unheard of in contract lounges. Private hotel-style rooms with an en suite bathroom and shower are available, offering a level of comfort rarely found in Priority Pass lounges. A meeting room seating 10 with a TV is also available for booking.
If you are entitled to visit the lounge for more than three hours — for example if you are a business class passenger and a Priority Pass member — you also get a private bedroom for the duration of your stay, on a space-available basis. This is one of the most genuinely useful amenities at any airport lounge in the region: a proper bed with an en suite bathroom, available at no extra cost for eligible longer-stay visitors.
Complimentary luggage storage is also available inside the lounge.
Other facilities
The lounge has a spa (treatments are chargeable), a children's play area, a gaming area with pool tables and PlayStations, showers, multiple restroom zones throughout the lounge, Wi-Fi, and abundant power sockets. The conference room is available for a fee.
Who can access the Primeclass Lounge
The Primeclass Lounge is exclusive to contracted airline passengers travelling in first or business class. Access is also accepted through lounge gateway programmes including Priority Pass, LoungeKey, Lounge Pass, and Diners Club, as well as direct tie-ups with local bank cards.
Priority Pass: Yes — fully accepted. UAE cardholders with Priority Pass through any provider can use this lounge.
Mastercard Travel Pass (DragonPass): Yes — accepted.
Visa Airport Companion (DragonPass): Yes — accepted.
Walk-in: OMR 25 for 3 hours. One of the better value walk-in fees in the GCC given what is included.
Time limit: Regardless of which entry method you use, lounge visits are limited to three hours. However, you can stack entry methods — if you are a business class passenger and a Priority Pass member, you could visit the lounge for six hours.
Airline partners: Airline partners who send their business class passengers here include Cham Wings Airlines, Edelweiss Air, EgyptAir, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, Etihad, flydubai, Gulf Air, Oman Air, Qatar Airways, and Turkish Airlines.
Oman Air Business Class Lounge — The Finest Airline Lounge in the Gulf
Location: Level 5, Muscat International Airport, adjacent to the Primeclass Lounge.
Hours: 24/7
Priority Pass: No — not accepted
The Oman Air Business Class Lounge sits immediately next door to the Primeclass Lounge and operates at a categorically higher level. Several highly experienced reviewers describe it as the best business class lounge in the world. That may be a matter of taste, but no reviewer who has visited it has described it as anything less than exceptional.
The lounge is winding and has all kinds of distinct areas — it's partitioned into many little seating zones in a way that is quite unlike most airport lounges. One of the larger areas stretches along the windows, where you'll find rows of seats, some high-top seating, and the bar. At the end of this section you'll find workstations with iMacs.
Oman Air's Business Class Lounge at Muscat is the first to gain the APEX WORLD CLASS by YATES+ status for its Business Class Lounge, becoming one of only 10 airlines in the world to receive that award.
Dining
The bar area is elegant and is the only place in the lounge where alcohol is available, so you come here to order a glass of wine, a beer, a cocktail, or a barista coffee. Two separate dining areas serve a buffet with hot and cold options — the buffet has a Nespresso machine, though barista coffee from the bar is recommended for a better cup. The selection is extensive: soups, fresh salads, deli meats, cheese, pastries, hot protein dishes, fresh fruit, and desserts.
Rest facilities
The lounge has a relaxation room in the back with seven angled daybeds that have curtains around them, as well as four private nap rooms — these are fully flat daybeds with doors, suitable for proper rest. There is also a family room, a kids' play area, and a Shangri-La Spa accessible via stairs from the lounge, with a complimentary 15-minute treatment for first class passengers (business class passengers pay for spa treatments).
Who can access the Oman Air Business Lounge
This is where the oneworld news becomes directly relevant.
As of June 30, 2025, Oman Air officially joined the oneworld alliance as its 15th member airline. Oneworld Emerald, Sapphire, and premium cabin customers now have access to Oman Air's lounges at Muscat, Salalah, and Bangkok.
In plain terms, this means:
Oman Air Business Class passengers on same-day departures
Oman Air Sindbad Gold and Silver members on international Oman Air flights
Oneworld Emerald members (British Airways Gold, Qantas Platinum, American Executive Platinum, Qatar Airways Platinum, etc.) — now have access as part of the oneworld reciprocal lounge policy
Oneworld Sapphire members (British Airways Silver, Qatar Airways Gold, Cathay Marco Polo Silver, etc.) — also have access
For UAE residents who are British Airways, Qatar Airways, or other oneworld frequent flyers at Emerald or Sapphire level, this is a significant change: Oman Air's Business Lounge in Muscat is now accessible to you, as it is one of the best airline lounges in the region.
Priority Pass is not accepted at the Oman Air Business Lounge. However, the adjacent Primeclass Lounge is open to Priority Pass members.
Oman Air First Class Lounge — For the Very Few
Location: Level 5, accessed through or adjacent to the Business Lounge.
Hours: 24/7
Priority Pass: No
Oman Air's First Class Lounge offers a more intimate, exclusive version of the business lounge experience. The lounge has over 75 seats but rarely sees more than a dozen passengers at any given time — usually just one or two people are present.
The lounge features a bar and dining area, nap rooms — private rooms with a daybed, ottoman, TV, plus a drink and snack basket — a single shower suite, and personalized service. À la carte dining is available rather than buffet-only. The Shangri-La Spa is accessible via the business lounge and connects to the first class area.
Oman Air is planning to add a new Sindbad Platinum status tier equivalent to Oneworld Emerald, with key benefits including access to this flagship first class lounge at Muscat. Until that tier launches, access is limited to Oman Air first class passengers — a very small group given the airline's current cabin configuration.
Aerotel Muscat — The Transit Hotel
Directly adjacent to the lounges on Level 5 is the Aerotel, Muscat's airside transit hotel. This is not technically a lounge — it is a proper hotel inside the secure departure area — but it is highly relevant for UAE travellers on long layovers or early-morning connections.
Priority Pass cardholders can use their card to access certain Aerotel facilities including a 30-minute massage at the spa. For longer stays, rooms can be booked by the hour or for the full night. The Aerotel is available only to airside passengers who have cleared passport control.

Salalah Airport: Oman Air Al Khareef Lounge
Location: Airside, past security, near gate 3B. Turn left after security and proceed approximately halfway down the terminal. The entrance to the lounge is on the left.
Hours: 24/7
Salalah Airport is a beautiful facility — a gorgeous terminal with high ceilings and plenty of natural light for a fairly small airport. It handles significant seasonal traffic during the Khareef, when UAE families descend on Salalah for the greenery and cooler temperatures.
The Al Khareef Lounge — named after the Khareef monsoon season — is the only lounge at Salalah Airport. It is essentially a scaled-down version of Oman Air's excellent first and business class lounges in Muscat. This lounge can be accessed by virtually all premium passengers departing the airport, plus Priority Pass members.
The main part of the lounge features floor-to-ceiling windows (though no apron views) and comfortable couches and leather chairs arranged in sections.
Dining
The food selection includes salads, finger sandwiches, spreads, fresh fruit, chocolates, cookies, and more, plus several hot dishes including soups, paneer masala, chicken, and rice. A variety of soft drinks, water, juice, coffee, and tea are served. The lounge did not have alcohol available. Unlike Muscat, Salalah's airport lounge appears to operate without an alcohol bar — worth knowing for travellers who specifically value that.
The lounge was empty during the reviewer's mid-afternoon visit, which is typical for Salalah — it gets busy during Khareef peak season (July–September) when charter flights and scheduled services are at maximum frequency.
Who can access the Al Khareef Lounge
The Oman Air Al Khareef Lounge is for Oman Air passengers travelling in first or business class cabins and Oman Air Sindbad programme members.
From July 2025, as part of Oman Air's oneworld membership, oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members, and premium cabin customers, now have access to the Oman Air lounge at Salalah. This means British Airways, Qantas, Qatar Airways, American Airlines, and other oneworld frequent flyers at Gold/Platinum level can now use this lounge when flying through or out of Salalah.
Priority Pass: Yes — the Oman Air Lounge Salalah is open to Priority Pass members. UAE credit cardholders using Priority Pass, Mastercard Travel Pass, or Visa Airport Companion can access the Al Khareef Lounge.
Walk-in: Available, though the exact fee is not widely published — confirm at the lounge reception on arrival.
There is also a Plaza Premium Lounge at Salalah, which is an independent pay-to-enter facility. Reviews are significantly more mixed — visitor feedback on the Plaza Premium Lounge Salalah highlights comfortable seating and a kids' play zone, but frequently criticises food quality, with multiple reviewers describing limited, inconsistent, and low-quality offerings. The Al Khareef Lounge is the clear choice when you have access.
Sohar Airport: Limited Lounge Facilities
Sohar Airport (OHS) is a small facility approximately 10km northwest of Sohar city, serving the industrial port region of northern Oman. It spans 5,600 square metres and handles around half a million passengers annually, with a 4km runway, four boarding bridges, and seven check-in booths. Airlines serving Sohar include Air Arabia, Qatar Airways, and SalamAir.
Sohar does not have a Priority Pass or Mastercard Travel Pass lounge in the standard network. The airport has a basic business/VIP lounge area for premium passengers, but this is not independently reviewed or widely documented. UAE residents flying to Sohar on Air Arabia or SalamAir should plan accordingly — the general terminal concourse is the realistic waiting area for most passengers.
For UAE residents, Sohar is primarily a business destination serving the port and industrial zone. The one-hour drive down the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Highway from the Dubai border makes it accessible by road, bypassing the airport entirely for many trips.
Khasab Airport: No Passenger Lounges
Khasab Airport (KHS) serves the Musandam Governorate — the extraordinary exclave of Oman separated from the mainland by UAE territory, known for dramatic fjords, dolphin watching, and dhow cruises. Oman Air operates daily flights connecting Khasab to Muscat.
Khasab Airport has a short runway suited to smaller aircraft, basic terminal facilities, and no dedicated passenger lounge. It is a functional regional airport that gets the job done for access to one of the most scenically spectacular parts of the Gulf — but no one comes to Khasab for the airport experience.
For UAE residents visiting Musandam, the easiest route is to drive north from Ras Al Khaimah into the Musandam peninsula through the UAE-Oman land border at Tibat — no flight required. Khasab Airport is primarily used by Omani domestic travellers and those making the Muscat-Musandam connection.
Oman Air's oneworld Membership: What It Means for UAE Travellers
The June 2025 oneworld development deserves specific attention for UAE residents who accumulate frequent flyer status.
As of June 30, 2025, Oman Air officially joined the oneworld alliance as its 15th member, unlocking lounge access, earning and redeeming miles, and status benefits across the alliance network.
For UAE residents, the practical implications by loyalty programme:
British Airways Executive Club Gold (oneworld Sapphire): You now have access to Oman Air's Business Class Lounge at Muscat and Salalah when flying any oneworld carrier — not just Oman Air.
British Airways Executive Club Gold Guest List / Premier (oneworld Emerald): Same access as Gold, plus access to first class lounge facilities where applicable.
Qatar Airways Privilege Club Platinum (oneworld Emerald): Lounge access at Muscat and Salalah on oneworld flights.
Qatar Airways Privilege Club Gold (oneworld Sapphire): Business lounge access.
American Airlines Executive Platinum (oneworld Emerald): Business and first lounge access.
Qantas Platinum / Platinum One (oneworld Emerald): Business and first lounge access.
If you are a UAE resident flying through Muscat on any oneworld carrier — British Airways, Qatar Airways, Etihad (not oneworld, but partner), and others — and you hold Sapphire or Emerald status in any oneworld programme, the Oman Air Business Class Lounge is now within reach. This is a meaningful upgrade from being directed to the Primeclass Lounge as the only non-Oman-Air option.
Oman Air is also planning a new top-tier Sindbad Platinum level equivalent to Oneworld Emerald, with access to the first class lounge at Muscat among its benefits. Details are expected in the second half of 2025 or early 2026.
Which UAE Credit Cards Work at Oman Airports
The Primeclass Lounge at Muscat and the Al Khareef Lounge at Salalah are both in the Priority Pass, Mastercard Travel Pass (DragonPass), and Visa Airport Companion networks. UAE residents with lounge access through any of these programmes can use both.
Programme | Works at Muscat Primeclass? | Works at Salalah Al Khareef? |
|---|---|---|
Priority Pass | Yes | Yes |
Mastercard Travel Pass (DragonPass) | Yes | Yes |
Visa Airport Companion (DragonPass) | Yes | Yes |
LoungeKey | Yes | Yes |
The standard UAE programme rules apply: Mastercard Travel Pass requires at least USD 1 in international transactions every three months to maintain complimentary access. Visa Airport Companion requires the card to be registered in the app before visiting. Physical card presentation alone is no longer accepted — apps are mandatory.
The Oman Air Business Class and First Class Lounges at Muscat are not accessible through any credit card lounge programme — access is exclusively through airline tickets and alliance status.
Practical Tips for UAE Travellers at Oman's Airports
Arrive early at Muscat and budget for the lounge. If you are connecting through Muscat, this lounge cluster is worth planning your journey around. Arrive 2–3 hours before your flight if you can, to make the most of the Primeclass private bedroom offer for longer stays.
The Primeclass lounge can get busy. Because it accepts such a wide range of airlines' business class passengers alongside Priority Pass members, it can become crowded during peak departure waves — typically midnight to 3am when the Gulf carrier bank is active. Early mornings and afternoons are quieter.
Stack your access if you can. Priority Pass and business class ticket access can be stacked for a six-hour total stay, which also qualifies you for a complimentary private bedroom. If you are flying business class and have Priority Pass through a UAE credit card, use both on entry.
Book Khareef season travel early. Salalah's lounge is perfectly comfortable outside peak season. During Khareef (July–September), every seat fills with Gulf visitors and the Al Khareef Lounge will be considerably busier.
Oman is not dry. Unlike Kuwait, alcohol is available at Oman's airport lounges — specifically at the Oman Air Business Lounge and the Primeclass Lounge in Muscat. This is the case throughout the country.
The Muscat transit hotel (Aerotel) is airside. If you need a proper sleep between connections, the Aerotel on Level 5 is directly adjacent to the lounges and accessible without leaving the secure departure area. Some Priority Pass cards give access to spa facilities there.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Priority Pass work at Muscat Airport? Yes — Priority Pass is accepted at the Primeclass Lounge, as are LoungeKey, Lounge Pass, Diners Club, and direct bank card tie-ups. The Oman Air Business and First Class Lounges do not accept Priority Pass.
What is the best lounge at Muscat Airport? For most UAE residents, the answer depends on your access. The Oman Air Business Class Lounge is the superior product — quieter, better food, more elegant — but requires airline ticket or oneworld status access. For Priority Pass, Mastercard Travel Pass, or Visa Airport Companion holders, the Primeclass Lounge is consistently described as one of the best contract lounges in the world and is an exceptional experience in its own right.
Can I access the Oman Air lounge in Muscat with British Airways status? Yes — following Oman Air's oneworld membership from June 30, 2025, oneworld Emerald, Sapphire, and premium cabin customers have access to Oman Air's lounges at Muscat and Salalah. British Airways Gold (Sapphire) and above are eligible.
Is there a lounge at Salalah Airport? Yes — the Oman Air Al Khareef Lounge at Salalah Airport is open 24 hours and is located past security near gate 3B. It accepts Priority Pass and is part of the oneworld lounge network following Oman Air's alliance membership.
Is there a lounge at Sohar or Khasab airports? Not in the standard sense accessible to lounge programme members. Sohar has a basic VIP facility for premium ticket holders; Khasab has no passenger lounge. For both, plan on using the general terminal area.
Does Oman Air serve alcohol in its lounges? Yes — alcohol is available at the bar in the Oman Air Business Class Lounge at Muscat, which is the only place in the lounge where it is served. Alcohol is also available at the Primeclass Lounge's bar. Salalah's Al Khareef Lounge appears to operate without an alcohol bar.
Lounge access policies, walk-in fees, and alliance benefits are subject to change. Oman Air's oneworld membership took effect June 30, 2025 — verify current lounge access entitlements with your airline or loyalty programme. Last updated March 2026.
