Airport Lounges at Hamad International Airport Doha: The Complete 2026 Guide

Airport Lounges at Hamad International Airport Doha: The Complete 2026 Guide

Mar 7, 2026

For UAE residents, Doha is one of the most frequently transited airports in the world. The Dubai–Doha and Abu Dhabi–Doha air corridors are among the busiest in the GCC, with departures running through the day and into the early hours. Whether you're a frequent flyer transiting through Hamad International Airport on a longer journey, taking a Qatar Airways connection, or flying direct to Doha for business or leisure, knowing the lounge landscape at DOH will change how you experience your time there.

Hamad International Airport consistently ranks among the world's best airports — and it has the lounges to match. But the hierarchy is complex, the access rules are layered, and — critically for UAE travellers — not all credit card lounge programmes work in the same way at Doha as they do at Dubai International. This guide cuts through the noise.

The Single Most Important Thing UAE Travellers Need to Know

Priority Pass, Visa Airport Companion, and Mastercard Travel Pass do not get you into the Qatar Airways lounges — Al Safwa, Al Mourjan, or the status (Platinum/Gold/Silver) lounges. These are airline lounges, not lounge network properties.

The only lounge at Hamad International Airport that accepts these programmes is the Al Maha Lounge (previously called Oryx Lounge, rebranded September 2025). If your UAE credit card lounge benefit runs through Priority Pass, Mastercard Travel Pass, or Visa Airport Companion, Al Maha is where you'll be headed.

The Qatar Airways lounges — which are objectively better — are accessible only through your ticket class, your frequent flyer status, or by paying to upgrade directly with Qatar Airways. We'll cover all of this below.

Hamad International Airport: The Layout

DOH operates as a single terminal split into two main zones. The South area — where you'll find the iconic giant yellow Lamp Bear sculpture — anchors the Duty Free South Plaza near gates A and B. The North/Expansion area houses the newer Duty Free North Plaza, the spectacular indoor Orchard garden, and Concourses C, D, and E.

Almost every lounge is on Level 2 or Level 3, reached by lifts and escalators from the main departures floor. If you're arriving from Dubai or Abu Dhabi and transiting through Doha, you'll pass through transfer security before accessing either zone. The airport and all major lounges are open 24/7.

Al Safwa First Lounge — One of the World's Greatest Airport Lounges

Location: Level 3, Duty Free South Plaza, to the right of the Lamp Bear. Escalator access from the main terminal floor.

The Qatar Airways Al Safwa First Lounge is the best airport lounge in Doha — in fact, it's arguably one of the best airport lounges in the world. The lounge is minimalist and grand, with ridiculously high ceilings and marble finishes that make it feel more like a museum than an airport lounge.

The centrepiece is a gigantic water feature with a single icicle of water flowing into a large reflecting pool. Original artwork and antiquities from the National Museum of Qatar and Museum of Islamic Art are displayed throughout, alongside giant installations including a vast Keith Haring painting. An entire wing is dedicated to families, with three games rooms by age group and nine soundproofed private family suites.

Private sleeping rooms, a spa with a jacuzzi, a cigar room, showers with Diptyque amenities, and full à la carte dining round out a genuinely remarkable space.

How UAE travellers access Al Safwa

This is where the Doha routing quirk becomes very useful for UAE residents. Short-haul Qatar Airways flights from the UAE to Doha — such as Dubai (DXB) to Doha or Abu Dhabi (AUH) to Doha — are ticketed as First Class rather than Business Class, even when the seat is the same QSuite product. This means a Qatar Airways business class ticket on a short Middle Eastern hop will qualify for Al Safwa lounge access during your layover in Doha.

So if you're flying, say, Dubai to Doha and then connecting onward to Europe in Business, your short first leg technically grants you Al Safwa access for your layover — one of the best lounge access hacks available to UAE-based travellers.

Other ways in:

  • Any Qatar Airways or Oneworld First Class ticket

  • Qatar Airways Privilege Club Platinum status flying an eligible Business Class fare (not Business Lite, not upgrade fare)

Paying to access Al Safwa: Qatar Airways sells access for around QAR 600 (approximately USD 165) to Business Class passengers who would otherwise be eligible for Al Mourjan and whose ticket was issued by Qatar Airways. This is worth it for layovers over three hours — particularly if you want a proper nap in a private room.

Hours: 24/7

Al Mourjan Business Lounge — South and The Garden (North)

South location: Level 3, Duty Free South Plaza, left of the Lamp Bear next to Harrods Tea Room. Garden (North) location: Level 2, Duty Free Plaza North, near Louis Vuitton, Concourse C.

Qatar Airways operates two Business Class lounges. The original South lounge is massive and well-established. The newer Garden lounge in the North expansion is more architecturally striking.

Al Mourjan South

The Al Mourjan Business Lounge South spans over 10,000 sqm and can hold up to 1,000 passengers. The centrepiece is a giant reflection pool. The main floor has diverse seating areas, a Deli on the lower level, and a Restaurant with full table service and a staffed bar on the upper level. It is one of the most impressive Business Class lounges in the world — though it can feel impersonal at peak hours.

Al Mourjan Garden (North)

The Garden lounge is newer, calmer, and more intimate. It comes with 24 quiet rooms or day rooms — 18 single and 6 double — with guests permitted to stay up to 6 hours. There is also a games room and a Louis Vuitton branded bar area where everything is for purchase. Seeing The World In Steps If you have a long transit and want to sleep, this is where to go.

How UAE travellers access Al Mourjan

  • Qatar Airways First or full-fare Business Class ticket (not Business Lite, not an upgrade within 14 days of departure)

  • Oneworld Sapphire or Emerald status flying Business Class on any Oneworld airline

  • Economy and Business Lite passengers can purchase access at check-in or Qatar Airways sales offices, subject to availability - around QAR 450 (approximately USD 125)

Note for UAE passengers: Qatar Airways does not provide complimentary lounge access to passengers booked on a Business Lite ticket, nor when upgrading into Business or regional First Class within 14 days of departure. If you're holding a Business Lite ticket from Dubai to Doha, you will not automatically get Al Mourjan access — check whether paid access is offered when you check in.

Hours: 24/7

Platinum, Gold and Silver Lounges — For Status Members

These lounges serve Oneworld frequent flyers and Qatar Airways Privilege Club members travelling in Economy, Premium Economy, or on Business Lite fares.

Platinum Lounge South / North: For Oneworld Emerald members (e.g. British Airways Gold, Qantas Platinum, American Airlines Executive Platinum) Gold Lounge South / North: For Oneworld Sapphire members (e.g. British Airways Silver, Qatar Airways Gold) Silver Lounge: For Qatar Airways Silver and some Oneworld status members

The Platinum Lounge South is spacious and quiet with à la carte dining, a staffed bar, shower suites, nap rooms, a well-equipped business area, and a family room. The Gold Lounges are thoughtfully designed but more limited.

Purchased access to the status lounges starts from QAR 300.

Al Maha Lounge — The Credit Card Accessible Option

Important: Effective 1 September 2025, the Oryx Lounge was rebranded as Al Maha Lounge. If you remember the Oryx Lounge from previous visits, it is now Al Maha.

There are two Al Maha Lounge locations at DOH:

  • Al Maha South: Level 2, Duty Free South. From the Lamp Bear, walk straight ahead and take the lift or escalator on the left. Near Gates A, B, and C.

  • Al Maha North: Level 2, Duty Free North area, accessible by walking or via the shuttle train from Gate C1.

Al Maha Lounge participates in Priority Pass, so you can enter with a Priority Pass membership or a credit card that includes Priority Pass benefits. It is also accessible via the Visa Airport Companion and Mastercard Travel Pass apps — the two programmes used by most UAE-issued credit cards.

What's inside

Facilities include unlimited high-speed Wi-Fi, a variety of meal and beverage options, shower rooms, a family area, rest area, television area, reading materials, and a business centre. Alcoholic beverages are available outside of Ramadan. The food is a buffet format with hot dishes, Arabic staples including dates and local pastries, and international options.

Walk-in fees

Day passes can be purchased for 6-hour blocks at around QAR 270 (approximately USD 74). Additional time options: 3 hours for QAR 160 (approximately USD 44), and 12 hours for QAR 540 (approximately USD 148). Children aged 2–11 are half-price, and infants under 2 are free.

Priority Pass access is limited to a maximum 4-hour stay, and is not guaranteed — it is subject to space availability. Peak windows at Doha (17:00–19:00, 22:00–02:00, and 04:00–07:00) see the lounge fill quickly. Arriving outside these windows gives the best chance of immediate entry.

Which UAE Credit Cards Work at Doha Airport

Here is a clear breakdown of the major UAE-issued cards, whether they work at Hamad International, and what they cover.

The three card networks and what they cover at DOH

All UAE credit card lounge benefits flow through one of three programmes:

Priority Pass — covers the Al Maha Lounge at DOH. Widely available on FAB, HSBC, Standard Chartered, and some ENBD cards. The most universally recognised network.

Mastercard Travel Pass (powered by DragonPass) — covers the Al Maha Lounge at DOH (following the September 2025 Oryx/Al Maha rebrand). Used by Emirates NBD Mastercards, Citi UAE Mastercards, FAB Mastercards, and others. Since May 2025, requires a minimum USD 1 international spend every 3 months to unlock access, with annual visit caps per card tier.

Visa Airport Companion (powered by DragonPass) — covers the Al Maha Lounge at DOH. Used by Emirates NBD Visa cards, ADCB Visa cards, Emirates Islamic Visa cards, and others. Replaced LoungeKey for most UAE Visa products from October 2024. Requires the Visa Airport Companion app.

None of these three programmes grant access to Al Safwa, Al Mourjan, or the Platinum/Gold/Silver lounges. Those require a qualifying Qatar Airways or Oneworld ticket or status.

Card-by-card breakdown for UAE travellers

American Express Platinum (UAE) is the strongest card for Doha lounge access. The Platinum Card from American Express provides access to more than 1,550 lounges worldwide, including Centurion Lounges, complimentary for cardholders and supplementary card members. At DOH, this covers Al Maha via Priority Pass. There is no Centurion Lounge at Hamad International Airport — the nearest is in Dubai. The annual fee is high, but the card's overall travel benefits make it the most comprehensive UAE-issued travel card available.

Citi Prestige (UAE) offers access to 1,100+ lounges via Mastercard Travel Pass, with 14 complimentary visits per year for the cardholder and supplementary cardholders, plus one free guest per visit. The cap of 14 visits per year (introduced June 2025) is an important limitation for frequent Doha transitters — if you're connecting through DOH regularly on long-haul routes, you could burn through your allocation quickly.

Citi Premier (UAE) offers unlimited complimentary access to over 1,100 airport lounges globally via the Mastercard Travel Pass app at a lower annual fee than Prestige — making it excellent value for frequent travellers who transit Doha regularly.

Emirates NBD Skywards Infinite provides unlimited access to over 1,000 lounges globally for the cardholder via Visa Airport Companion, including access for one guest. The AED 5,000 monthly minimum spend requirement is a meaningful condition — if you don't hit it in the month you visit a lounge, you'll be charged for access. UAE high-spenders will find this no obstacle; occasional travellers may find it frustrating.

FAB World Elite gives access to more than 1,200 airport lounges worldwide for you and a guest via Mastercard Travel Pass. It is one of the stronger all-round FAB cards for international travellers and works cleanly at Al Maha through the Mastercard Travel Pass app.

ADCB TouchPoints Platinum Visa gives 3 complimentary visits per year at over 1,200 airport lounges via the Visa Airport Companion app, for you and your supplementary cardholders. Additional guests are charged USD 32. The annual visit cap is low, making it better suited to occasional travellers than frequent transit users.

Mashreq Solitaire provides 12 complimentary airport lounge visits per year, with one complimentary guest per visit, accessible by presenting the card at participating LoungeKey lounges. LoungeKey covers Al Maha at Doha. The 12-visit cap spreads evenly across the year but can run short if you're doing multiple Doha transits per quarter.

RAKBank World Mastercard offers unlimited access to over 1,200 participating lounges in more than 135 countries with a minimum monthly spend of AED 10,000 required to maintain the benefit.

Important Rules for UAE Cardholders Using Lounge Benefits in Doha

Apps are now mandatory — physical cards won't work

Since the Visa Airport Companion overhaul in October 2024 and the Mastercard Travel Pass changes from May 2025, you must access the lounge via the relevant smartphone app. Physical card presentation is no longer accepted for most UAE-issued cards. Download and register your app before your trip — not when you're standing at the Al Maha reception desk.

The Mastercard international spend rule

From May 2025, Mastercard requires cardholders to make a minimum international spend of USD 1 every three months to unlock complimentary lounge access for the following quarter. If no qualifying spend is made, cardholders will be charged USD 32 per lounge visit. Emirates NBD An "international transaction" means a purchase at a merchant physically located outside the UAE, or an online purchase with an international merchant. Paying at a UAE hotel with a foreign credit card does not count.

Mastercard Titanium note for UAE holders

Lounge access through Mastercard Titanium cards issued in the UAE has been discontinued and replaced with a Flight Delay Pass. Emirates NBD If you hold a Titanium-tier Emirates NBD or other UAE Mastercard, you no longer have standard lounge access — check whether your card has been upgraded or replaced.

Annual visit caps — plan ahead

Many UAE Mastercard products now cap annual lounge visits. The Citi Prestige, for example, is limited to 14 visits per calendar year from June 2025. If you're a frequent Doha transitter — say, connecting through DOH four times in each direction annually — that's eight lounge visits from Doha alone. Factor this in against other airport lounge usage across your travel year.

Guest fees

Bringing a travel companion to the lounge? A guest fee of USD 32 applies per guest per visit for most Mastercard Travel Pass programmes, charged to your registered Mastercard. Emirates NBD Some premium cards — including the Emirates NBD Skywards Infinite and FAB World Elite — include one complimentary guest per visit.

Peak times at Al Maha

DOH is a 24/7 transit hub and Al Maha fills quickly during the heavy banking periods. The lounge gets most crowded between 17:00–19:00, 22:00–02:00, and 04:00–07:00 local time. If your Doha transit falls within these windows, budget extra time at the reception queue or consider arriving at the lounge early.

Buying Your Way into Better Lounges: The Case for Paying Up

Many UAE travellers transiting through Doha are on economy or Business Lite fares. If your credit card only covers Al Maha, here are the upgrade options worth knowing:

Upgrade to Al Mourjan from an economy fare: Qatar Airways periodically offers economy passengers the ability to purchase Al Mourjan access at check-in or via Manage My Booking. Pricing is around QAR 450 (approximately USD 125) and is subject to availability — more reliably offered on off-peak departures. If you have a long Doha layover in economy, this is worth checking.

Upgrade to Al Safwa from a Business Class fare: If you're flying Business Class on a qualifying Qatar Airways ticket and have more than three hours in Doha, paying around QAR 600 (approximately USD 165) to access Al Safwa instead of Al Mourjan is a genuine upgrade — particularly for the private sleeping rooms, which are far superior to anything available in the business lounge.

The Dubai–Doha first class loophole: As noted above, flying Qatar Airways business class on the short Dubai–Doha or Abu Dhabi–Doha leg qualifies as First Class ticketing, granting access to Al Safwa during your Doha layover without any additional payment. If you're planning a long-haul journey with a Qatar Airways connection, routing through your UAE home city first to create this short leg can give you Al Safwa access at no lounge surcharge.

Frequently Asked Questions from UAE Travellers

Does my Emirates NBD or ADCB Priority Pass work in Doha? Yes — at Al Maha Lounge only. Qatar Airways' own lounges (Al Safwa, Al Mourjan, Platinum, Gold) are not part of the Priority Pass, Visa Airport Companion, or Mastercard Travel Pass networks.

I'm flying economy on Qatar Airways — can I still get into a decent lounge? Your best route is Al Maha via your UAE credit card, or purchasing Al Mourjan access if it's offered at check-in. Al Maha is serviceable, particularly if you need a shower during a long transit. Al Mourjan is significantly better but costs around QAR 450 to access on a bought-in basis.

I have Oneworld Sapphire status from flying British Airways out of Dubai. Which Doha lounge do I get? The Gold Lounge, provided you are flying on a Oneworld airline. Your BA Silver/Oneworld Sapphire status grants Gold Lounge access. Emerald/Platinum status would get you the Platinum Lounge.

My Mastercard Travel Pass app shows zero visits remaining. What do I do? If your lounge benefit has been paused, you can regain access by making an international transaction of a minimum USD 1 on your card. Your access will be reinstated within up to 72 hours. For urgent access, you can also pay the USD 32 walk-in fee directly through the app.

Is there anywhere to sleep at Doha airport without a Qatar Airways lounge? Yes. The Al Mourjan Garden lounge has 24 quiet rooms for Business Class or paid-access passengers. The Oryx Airport Hotel inside the terminal accepts hourly bookings for anyone — it is a particularly good option for groups or families, typically offering better value than purchasing two lounge passes.

Do Ramadan rules affect my lounge visit? Alcohol service is paused at Al Maha Lounge during Ramadan. The Qatar Airways lounges may also modify their food service timing during Ramadan, with iftar-style service replacing the standard daytime buffet.

Lounge access rules, credit card terms, and facility details are subject to change. Always verify current eligibility in your Visa Airport Companion or Mastercard Travel Pass app before travelling. Last updated March 2026.
